Chai Concentrate

Friday, March 9, 2012

I've been meaning to make chai concentrate for forever and just now finally got around to doing it. I love chai lattes, but they are made with a gross powder here that doesn't taste like anything. I like my chai strong, spicy and sweet so it's nice to be able to make it exactly the way I like. It's a good drink for this early spring weather, which is still chilly in the mornings. I can just heat up some milk, mix in a bit of concentrate and take it along in a thermos to class. I followed this recipe, and used loose Indian black tea instead of tea bags.  It was incredibly easy to make, I can't believe it took me so long. I'll definitely never go back to chai tea bags or powder!

  1. uhh koncentrat er smart! Jeg vil helt sikkert prøve at lave min egen efter succes med lækker (men dyr) krydderiblanding fra Torvehallerne!

    1. Ooh, I always stop to smell that one from Torvehallerne! So nice. It's so easy to make it yourself, you definitely should! Have you tried dirty chai? It's just a chai latte with a shot of espresso, but it's really good! Think a coffee lover like you might like it. :)

  2. yum, I saw another tutorial floating around lately as well. I think it's a sign for me to make some! Also, the woven plate/basket you're using, I had a similar one saved to my etsy favourites, but of course it's sold! CUTE!

    1. Yes, there are lots! I think it's just a matter of experimenting to find out what kind of blend you like best. I think next time I'll add more cardamom and chili and less anise and vanilla, so it's a bit more spicy than sweet. The basket was a gift from my mom, I think she got it in Hawaii actually but it looks more African to me. You might be able to find something similar in one of the Ten Thousand Villages shops, they have really good baskets!

  3. Mmm, this sounds wonderful! By the way, I'm going to be in Copenhagen in mid-May (16th to 20th) -- any chance you'll be around and would like to meet up for coffee?
