New Look

After being so sorely neglected these last several months or so, I've decided to give this space a little upgrade. I'm hoping that it's a push to get back into the habit of blogging, I miss reflecting on and recording bits of my life. For a while I've been going back and forth on whether it's too narcissistic to blog mainly about my life or if that's the most authentic thing to do in the end. That maybe it's more self obsessed to pretend to be some sort of 'craft/DIY/food/lifestyle expert', when I barely feel like I have my own life together most days. I should probably just stop over thinking things so much.

Here's a little peek from my trip to Georgia. I fell pretty hard for this place, so I'll be posting lots more about it soon.

  1. Happy to see a update from you! Maybe it will help push me along as well. Can't wait to hear more about your trip down South.

    1. Yes, let's motivate each other! I miss seeing updates from your side too!

  2. Meh, I don't think you have to be an expert or worry about portraying yourself as one. People blog for all sorts of reasons, and I think that personal blogs can be as scattered as our daily lives. But as a reader I like that about them!

    1. I do as well! I guess it just seems less interesting when it's your own life, ha ha.

  3. I agree with above. I've always liked your blog for it's lovely peek into how a Canadian ex-pat is getting along in a new country- I never got the impression that you were trying to be a craft/DIY/superstar anything (not that you're NOT- you make some sweet ass shizz)- I just got the impression you were exploring a new life in a new place and enjoying the process. I, meanwhile, enjoyed the process of you enjoying the process!

So, er, no worries mate. Keep at it. When and if you feel like it! Plus, blogs that tell you how to do EVERYTHING BETTER are annoying. Real people have messy houses. And messy lives. Nobody can live in an all-white house with just one artfully-strewn Pia Wallen blanket, can they? Really?

    1. Oh no, I definitely don't think of myself as any kind of superstar! It just seems like there is such an emphasis on that in the 'blogging world' these days, that you have to have something to contribute that is easily packaged and such. Not that there is anything wrong with that, either. I love me some party blogs!

Sorry for the rant. Thank you for your kind words, once again. And yes, let's keep up the lived in blog tradition!

  4. Blog about your life!! I find reading about bloggers' lives so much more interesting than the crafts/DIY/recipe stuff. A mix of the two is ok, but there are a bunch of "lifestyle" blogs I keep on my Google Reader just for the few posts where the writers talk about their own lives, and I just skim their other posts. If I wanted impersonal recipe recommendations, I'd read a cookbook. What I like about blogs is reading about the daily lives of all of these people whose lives are different than mine - and in the case of your blog, I'm especially interested in your experience as a Canadian living in Europe - so don't be afraid to make it personal. Just my opinion!

    1. Thanks so much for your opinion, Kristin! I was starting to think I was the only one who liked reading about other people's lives. Like I said, sometimes it feels less interesting when it's your own life but I'm really happy others don't feel that way. That's such a good comparison, that you could read a cookbook for recipes, etc.
