Despite being a regular Monday here in Copenhagen, Nicola and I couldn't let Canada Day pass without some kind of festivities. We were lacking the flag capes and fireworks, but we decided that a nice little dinner party with Canadian themed drinks and simple decorations would still be fitting. The cocktail we made up turned out surprisingly well, so I thought I would share the recipe here. It's well past all the national celebrations, but it's still a great drink for summer evenings.
O Canada Cocktail
Mix 2 oz ginger syrup with 2 oz whiskey (preferably Canadian, but we just used what we had on hand). Serve over ice drizzled with maple syrup, top with seltzer with a squeeze of lime and some mint leaves. Just mixing the ginger syrup with seltzer makes a really yummy ginger ale too, if you have some leftover.
For the decorations, I found some white and red striped paper straws and wrote some lyrics from our national anthem on cork coasters for the drinks. We also made a washi tape flag, which went well with the Canadiana pillows Nicola made. Reason #4697 why I am happy to have a CanaDane buddy here.
